HARBOR MICE

Harbor Mice is the perfect introduction to the world of sailing for our youngest sailors. Set against the scenic backdrop of Bristol Harbor, this class focuses on building confidence and comfort on the water while introducing fundamental sailing skills. In a fun and supportive environment, students will sail in small groups of 2-4 with an instructor aboard our stable 15-foot Mercury. It's the ideal way to develop a love for sailing and the outdoors while learning the basics in a safe, hands-on setting.

Mercury Sailing with Beginner Class

BEGINNER MERCURY

​​​​Beginner Mercury is designed for young sailors who are either new to sailing or transitioning from Harbor Mice. In this class, students sail in small groups of 2-4 with an instructor aboard our fleet of 15-foot Mercury keelboats—ideal for beginners due to their stability and ease of handling. As they build new friendships, students will learn the core fundamentals of sailing, including the key parts of a boat, points of sail, and essential boat handling techniques. This program is a fun and supportive way for young sailors to develop confidence and a strong foundation on the water.
 

RECOMMENDED FOR:

7-9 year olds

BLUE DRAGONS

Blue Dragons is designed for beginner sailors ready to take the next step and sail their own boat. Ideal for those transitioning from Harbor Mice or Beginner Mercuries, this program challenges students to gain independence on the water. Sailors will be paired with one other peer, or may sail solo with an instructor close by in a safety powerboat. They will sail the Blue Dragon, a user-friendly plastic-hull training boat equipped with a single sail and simple rigging. As they build their confidence, students will learn the fundamentals of rigging, steering, and trimming sails, all while developing a greater sense of independence on the water.​

INTERMEDIATES

Intermediate is designed for sailors who have completed a beginner-level course (or have equivalent experience) and are ready to build on their foundational skills. Students will rotate between sailing O’Pen Bic Skiffs and Optimists, practicing single-handed sailing with a safety powerboat nearby. Instructors will focus on refining techniques such as points of sail, boat parts, good seamanship, upwind sailing, capsize recovery, and understanding tides and weather. This class helps sailors gain the confidence and independence they need to become skilled, lifelong sailors.

8-11 year olds

TEEN GREEN

Teen Green is for sailors who have outgrown the Optimist in Intermediate or Opti Race, as well as for teenagers who are learning to sail. In this class, students will sail 420 dinghies (without trapezes or spinnakers) in pairs, focusing on key sailing skills in a double-handed boat. The curriculum emphasizes points of sail, boat parts and rigging, boat handling, seamanship, capsize recovery, and effective communication. While there may be occasional exposure to basic racing concepts for training purposes, the main focus remains on solidifying foundational skills. Participation in this program is a prerequisite for joining the 420 Race Team.

EBSF RACE TEAM

OPTI RACE TEAM

The Opti Race Team is an 8-week commitment, consisting of both Opti Green and Championship fleet sailors. Opti Green is designed for beginner racers, focusing on developing skills to make the boat go fast, understanding racing strategies and tactics, and learning the rules of sailing. Championship sailors should have a basic understanding of racing skills. Practices will focus on drills, advanced boat handling, racing rules and strategy.

 

In addition to Opti training, this group will sail Skeeta and Nikki foiling boats on select weather-permitting days to keep things challenging and fun. 

​

Both sailors and parents should be prepared to travel to several local and regional regattas throughout the summer. A typical season includes 4-6 local and regional regattas.

​

RECOMMENDED FOR:

9-14 year olds (120 lb weight limit for the boat)

Experienced Sailors Interested in Racing

Privately Owned Optis, EBSF Optis (at no additional cost)

EBSF RACE TEAM

420 RACE TEAM

The 420 Race Team is an 8-week commitment designed for our most experienced junior sailors who have completed Teen Green (or have comparable experience). This class builds on a solid foundation of sailing and seamanship skills, focusing on advanced boat handling techniques, sail trim, racing strategies, and a deeper understanding of racing rules. Sailors will train and compete in Club 420s equipped with spinnakers and trapezes.

 

In addition to C420 training, this group will sail Skeeta and Nikki foiling boats on select weather-permitting days to keep things challenging and fun.

Both sailors and parents should be prepared to travel to several local and regional regattas throughout the summer. A typical season includes 4-6 local and regional regattas.​

​

RECOMMENDED FOR:

13-17 year olds

*Must have completed two sessions of Teen Green,  comparable class or have experience racing in the C420.

​​​CANCELLATION POLICY
Registrations cancelled on or before June 1 are eligible for a full refund, minus a $30 transaction fee.
Cancellations made after June 1 will incur a $100 cancellation fee.
Once a sailor’s session has begun, registrations are non-refundable.
