ADVENTURE SAILING

Typical ages for this class are between 11-17. The goal for this class is to continue to build the sailor's confidence and skills. This is a non-race oriented class where students have the ability to take the helm, trim the sails, navigate, and learn seamanship skills. Sailors will sail our J22s and Collegiate 420s and learn adventuring skills such as navigation, docking, and mooring landings. One highlight will be spinnaker flying on J22s. Typical class will separate the students into "crews" of 3-5 based on age and sailing ability, each crew will start with instructor in the boat. This a full day class so pack a lunch!

2021 will likely look very similar for the race team.

OPTI RACE TEAM

Our Opti race team is comprised of both Opti Green and RWB sailors. Opti Green is for the beginner racer who will learn the ins and outs of how to make their boat go fast, racing strategies and tactics, and the racing rules of sailing.

Once an Opti Green sailor masters the basics of racing and performs well at local regattas they will then graduate to Opti RWB where they will continue to improve and learn more advance techniques, sail setup, and strategies.

Racing students should expect to spend more time practicing in all weather conditions. Racers and parents should be prepared to regattas throughout the summer. A usual summer comprises of three 1-day regattas and the 3-day Junior Race Week towards the end of summer. more info: nbya.org
