J22 Race Team Pre-season Clinic

Tuesdays and Wednesdays May 15 - June 15.


This Clinic has three objectives:

1) Fun extension to the high school season

2) Prepare sailors to race their J/22 on Wednesday evening races all summer.*

3) Prepare a team from BYC for the Sears Cup this August.

Clinic Fee $300/sailor, scholarships available.

Fee includes summer Wednesday night charter 2021 season. Note* Must have 1 sailors age 18 or older on board.

Bristol Yacht Club Sears Cup Campaign 2021

Goal – to get to the finals of the US Junior Championship this August 10-14, 2021 at Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead on the 100th anniversary of the oldest trophy in youth sailing – the Sears Cup. 

RS 21 sailboats will be supplied at the finals.

Training begins May 15 in J/22s at BYC.

  • What: small group high-school-style practice in 420s for grades 7 - 12. Varsity Practice for Bayview Academy and Lincoln School.

  • Start date: March 23, 2021 on the water. Pre-season Zoom beginning early March. End date: May TBD

  • 5 days a week 3:45 - 6:30 pm at Bristol Yacht Club.

  • Richard Feeny as head coach, Kayla Kowal, Michael Zonnenberg and various other assists.

  • Open - Sailors need not be a member of an established team - all high school and middle school students are invited to participate.

  • Early arrival is encouraged. Beginners welcome.

  • Intermediate and advanced sailors also welcome and will learn to team race.

  • $599 for Entire Season  or  $250 for 8 practices  or  $35/day

High School Spring Sailing

Sailing in the Spring is cold water sailing! Students will need:

  • Personal Flotation Device (PFD)

  • Spray Gear

  • Sailing footwear - rubber boots or sneakers over your drysuit booties

  • Sweater and hat

  • Underlayers of fleece or polypropylene

  • Hat and sunglasses (optional but recommended)

  •  Drysuit (can be purchased through these vendors in Rhode Island: Zim, Team1)

  • Gloves (optional...people like “lobster gloves” as well as liners under dishwash gloves, under leather)

Boats provided by East Bay Sailing Foundation

COVID Policy. 

  • practices are caped at 15 people in accordance with State and CDC guidelines

  • Mandatory Health Screening for staff, students, and visitors each day

  • FACE MASKS are required whenever on BYC property. It is permissible to remove face masks when sailing
